About Us

The Caterpillar Band was founded in Lexington, Massachusetts by Nicky Eng. Nicky was born and raised in Wales in the United Kingdom but now resides in Lexington with her family. Wales lies west of England and is separated from England by the Cambrian Mountains. It is bordered on the northwest, west, and south by the Irish Sea and on the northeast and east by England. Wales is often known by the phrase "the Land of Song" (Welsh: /Gwlad y Gân/). Wales and its people have a renowned affinity for poetry and music. Introducing the many wonderful songs and stories of Wales to the younger generation is absolutely essential to the survival of these living traditions.

The people of Wales are by nature passionate, expressive and often creative — famous for singing, acting, storytelling, politics and poetry. Wales has been the birthplace for vocalists including Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, and Charlotte Church.

Nicky has always had a passion for music. One of her earliest memories is of the time spent sitting on her father's lap as he played the electric organ. Nicky's grandfather and great-grandfather were members of Welsh mining choirs. During her childhood, Nicky's father was a childrens magician, illusionist and puppeteer. From an early age, Nicky was aware of the ways to capture a childs imagination.

Nicky is now a parent herself and enjoys sharing music with her family and friends. She was inspired to start The Caterpillar Band after watching her daughter imitate the steps to the British children's song "My Father's Legs are Long Legs" around the time of her first birthday.

Nicky believes strongly in bringing music into the lives of children. The Caterpillar Band aims to do this in a way that is affordable to many.
