The Caterpillar Band is seeking new members! Classes start this fall and are geared towards children from birth to four years.
Caterpillar Band sessions involve a variety of activities for you and your child. Sessions include lots of singing, playing, pointing, waving, clapping, tapping, shaking, wiggling, dancing, bouncing, and giggling... all in time to the music!
The Caterpillar Band end-of-session performance is an integral part of the program. The Caterpillar Band concert is open to all band members and their families. Each concert features two or three songs and even some dancing! Each of our band members receives two invitations to distribute to family or friends. We try to hold the performance on a weekend, which allows our band members to include working parents and those who wouldn't normally get to attend a session during the work week.
At the end of each session, we present completion certificates to every band member! We also give out reward stickers throughout the session for a job well done!
Some of the fun activities that may be covered in class include:
- Ribbon dances
- Balloon dances
- Traditional childrens' songs
- Celtic songs
- Basic instrument play
- Songs that reflect the diversity of our band
(if you have a song that is important to your culture or background, please share it with us!)
Our classes are heavily linked to changes in the natural environment. We feel that children are very observant of changes in nature and we like to link our classes to this already heightened awareness.
A typical activity in the fall session might include a falling leaves dance where children are encouraged to move with fall-colored ribbon sticks. The infants enjoy watching the swirling colors. Some children will sway like trees in the wind. The older children move around with the ribbon sticks and act like the falling leaves.
